There are several ways in which an individual's death may be announced to the public. Most people contact their local newspapers and follow their protocol to get the notice published, though others like to keep it intimate with personal cards. Death notices and obits should not be mistaken as being the same. The first is often a sentimental accounting of an individual written by someone who was close enough to know them on a deep level.
