What To Know When Writing The Best Tribute Speech

Being asked to deliver an eulogy is a very special honor, as well as a big responsibility. Many people look for comfort in the touching words about the individual to whom they are paying respects. There are a few things one should keep in mind in order to write the best possible funeral tribute speech.

The eulogy is best delivered by someone who was related to, or very close to the deceased, because of its extremely personal nature. This honor is usually given to a single person, though the family may wish to hear from multiple people. The reason additional eulogists may be used is because the individual may have had many special relationships.

There are two main reasons why eulogies are given at funerals. The first is as a means for someone who had an especially close relationship with the deceased to say farewell and to express how deeply they will miss them. The second is to provide those attending the services with information about the honoree and the person they were in life.

Funerary speeches pose a special set of challenges to the one writing them. It is important to remember that everyone is grieving and seeking comfort, so the words should be positive and uplifting. The eulogy should read as naturally as possible so that it rings personal and not as something false, generic or insincere.

The type of information needed for the eulogy is going to depend on whether it will be of a biographical, or personal nature. The first basically recounts the deceased's life and accomplishments from birth to death. The latter is more about sharing fond memories and allowing everyone to connect with the lost one on an intimate level.

As mourners should not suffer through long activities, the delivery should be short and very sweet. It is recommended that one use notes when speaking instead of memorization, so that the words flow in a natural and sincere manner. The main thing is that everyone involved be touched and comforted by the heartfelt words.
