Once you have found out that someone you know has died, you will normally want to help out in whatever way you can. Religious families will appreciate that you have prayed for their lost loved one. It is a spiritual offering that is generally acceptable. You can also compile a bunch of photos in a video or photo album and offer that to the family of the dead. Pick images that only you have. The relatives of the deceased will love seeing new pictures of their loved one that they have never seen before.

Brining trays of food is common custom and a considerate one if the family of the dead is hosting an after-burial reception. Your contribution can be helpful at a time when grieving family members would rather not bother with preparing food for guests. Choose non-perishable items that can last till the burial.

It is a nice gesture to give prayer cards during the wake or after the burial. You can offer a card with a bouquet of flowers. Present it in a pretty leatherette folder or in a picture frame with a stand.
