Basics You Should Notice When Planning Commemorative Gardens

Memorial gardens make wonderful tributes to loved ones who have passed away. This type of a garden allows family members and friends to have a place to go and reflect and heal. Be sure to take time and plan in advance in order to create the best space possible.

Consider the life of the person being memorialized and ask yourself a few questions about their favorite things. Consider how much space is available and how it will be used. Gardens can be as large or as small as space and funds will allow.

Think about and plan for people's comfort. Make sure there is a place to sit and think. Benches are a popular choice. Some may even consider picnic tables or swings, depending on their personal preference. Make sure the deceased is represented in what is planted. If Grandpa loved irises, be sure there are lots of irises in the garden and everyone will think about him as soon as they arrive at the park. This is a great way to bring people together into conversation about the loved one who has passed. This can bring about healing.

As is the case with all gardens, make sure to keep larger plantings towards the back and shorter plants towards the front. This will create a more professional and comfortable area, where people are invited to sit. Some may even choose to plant trees and bushes in one section and flowers in a separate formal bed. Consider whether running water is available. If it is not, consider plants that require less watering. This is a good way to make it less likely to lose plants from neglect. Allow visitors to take clippings from flowering bushes and trees that remind them of the person being memorialized. This will allow them to keep of memory of their loved in their own home.

Visit the living memorial often and enjoy the accomplishment, both of the creation and the life it honors. Encourage others to visit and help with the planting. This type of a memorial is one that gives back to those who appreciate what the past gifts to the future.
