A Funeral Program Has Benefits

A memorial service is a chance for relatives, associates and friends to say a final farewell to one who has passed away. A lot of different influences can affect the way these events may flow. Having a funeral program printed and passed out will help all attendees understand and follow the proceedings.

This handout may be a couple of pages long or it may simply be a single sheet. It should always contain at least the most basic information about the honoree, such as their complete name, dates of both birth and death, as well as the location and time of the service. Most people also opt to include a favorite picture of the deceased on the cover.

The inside of the document will provide the order of proceedings from start to finish. Each song that is played, passage or poem that is read, should also have their author identified along with the name of who will be presenting them. Sometimes the family chooses to include a copy of the obituary so that all interested guests will have a copy.

Having a printed order of service helps the officiant to keep the proceedings flowing smoothly and in a timely fashion. It also provides an opportunity for those in attendance to follow along. Everyone will know what to expect as well as the details of any tributes performed during the event.

Aside from letting everyone know what to expect, these handouts often provide mourners with a sense of comfort and closure. It gives them a physical reminder of a very personal occasion. There is no wrong or right way to grieve, and for some, these mementos are key coping mechanisms.

There are plenty of reasons for having a funeral program available for guests. Each person will have access to the flow of proceedings as well as the personal details of the deceased. It may also serve as a keepsake to the memory of a loved one lost.
