Mortuary makeup artists offer a unique gift to those mourning the loss of a loved one. It takes top skills and excellent training to perform well in this field. Making a person look the way they did in life is very important to family and friends of the deceased. We have all heard people comment about how "peaceful and good" a person looked at their funeral or wake. This is the work of those who excel in their work.

It is remarkable that a person can be made to look "life like" even in death. It is even more so that they can be made to look the way they did before their death, by someone who never knew them. Most often families will submit a favorite photo to the funeral home and the "beautician" will use this as a template of sorts in order to recreate the person's looks.

The custom in many places is for loved ones to have a viewing of the deceased before they are laid to rest. Ordinary makeup can not be used for a funeral. It would not work properly. Instead it would cake up and refuse to blend. This is because it is made specifically for warm, living skin. A special blend has been created that is easily applied to skin that is no longer alive.
