Mortuary makeup artists offer a unique gift to those mourning the loss of a loved one. It takes top skills and excellent training to perform well in this field. Making a person look the way they did in life is very important to family and friends of the deceased. We have all heard people comment about how "peaceful and good" a person looked at their funeral or wake. This is the work of those who excel in their work.

It is quite amazing that a person can be made up in death to look as they did while living, especially by an individual who did not know them. How this is done is the family member will give a photo to the funeral director, and the artist will recreate what he or she sees.

The custom in many places is for loved ones to have a viewing of the deceased before they are laid to rest.
